Hello!

I wanted to share with you this adorable birthday card I made with the Birthday Chubbies Stamp set by FSJ. I wanted to make a fun card for either a child or adult, and I wanted to make the animals look like animal balloons. I did some paper piecing, coloring and layering. Not too difficult to make, but some fuzzy cutting is required. Which is not a biggie if you have the correct tools! More on that at the end of the post in the Supplies section.

Here are some pictures of the card, and some notes on how I made it.

This stamp set is called Birthday Chubbies SS-0553

STEPS TO MAKE THIS CARD:

  1. Start by stamping all images twice using Black Licorice Ink, on on the body color cardstock (Sheep – Oatmeal Cookie, Chick – Pineapple Smoothie, Pig – Bubble Gum Pink, Bunny- Pretty Amethyst). The second image will be stamped on the cardstock for the overlay ( the sheep’s wool – Whip Cream, Chick’s Belly- Banana Cream, Pig’s nose- Candy Apple, and the Bunny’s Tummy – Cosmic Grape) – All Cardstocks are fon Fun Stampers Journey and can be found HERE  After stamping is done, all images are to be fuzzy cut, for better results I recommend the Details Pro Shears.

2. Coloring the images – I used Color Burst Pencils using a darker color than the cardstock I was coloring, for example for the light yellow body I used a dark yellow color pencil. After I went over the edges and places where a shadow could be at, I went over the colored area with a color blender and baby oil to blend the color. This gives the image a nice dimension. Don’t forget to also color the layered images as well. (For the wool layer, I colored using a light grey).

3. Adhere the layers to the animals using small Foam Squares.

4. Next, prepare the background panel, by cutting some Pool Play cardstock (5.25″ x 4″). Using your Journey Blooms Paper Trimmer, connect the SCORING blade and create scoring lines around the edge of the background panel about .25 inches from the edge. Use Whip Cream Ink, and the Angled Paint Brush, to create some clouds throughout the panel by adding ink randomly. A few layers may be necessary depending on how bright you want the clouds to be. Then using the small shapes and the cake slice stamp in the set, using the “D” Block and Whip Cream ink, stamp through out panel making sure to rotate the stamp to stamp from different angles. Set aside to dry.

5. Now it is time to adhere the animal balloons and the strings to hold them. I used the Journey Twine in Natural color, and in Whip cream for the bow. Flip the animals over and using scotch tape add a small piece to hold the twine, then flip over and tie around one of the legs. Repeat this for all the animals. Make sure to add longer strings to those balloons that will be towards the top of the card. Once the twine is attached, add a Medium Foam square to the animal and place on back panel. Once all the animals are adhered, gather all the strings and pull them straight down and adhered a small piece of scotch tape at the bottom and trim. Get the whip cream twine and make a bow towards the middle of the strings, see picture below.

6. Stamp the sentiment on a piece of Whip Cream cardstock using Grape Fusion Ink, and add some small prints to the background using Pretty Amethyst and Banana Cream inks. Cut rectangle and make a fish tail on the left side of the rectangle. Adhere on top of the strings covering the part with the tape by using medium foam squares. Add some accent dots to match the colors of the animals.  Adhere background panel to a standard A2 size card base in Orange Creamsicle cardstock, top fold (11″ x 4.25″ folded in half). Use Medium foam squares to adhere the background panel slightly tilting it towards the left side. Finish card by adding journey glaze to the layered parts of the animals (nose, tummies and sheep’s fur). Let dry for about 15 minutes in a flat surface.

Thank you for stopping by!
